Who is Invictus?

Invictus is a Finnish born producer and a DJ, with heavy focus on underground dance music like Drum and Bass, Jungle, and Dubstep. You can expect groovy bass lines, hard hitting sounds and breakbeats. The energy levels are bound to be high.

Behind Invictus is Modou Sarr, a 25 year old Finnish guy now living in Tampere, studying Music Production at Tampere University of Applied Sciences.

What got you into music?

I have done music since a young age but found my ultimate passion after moving to Bristol, UK in 2014 and discovering the local rave scene and the many underground dance music genres the country has to offer.

When/why did you start making music?

I started playing around with production about a year and a half ago, and then more seriously just under a year ago when I decided to move back home and apply to TAMK.

Why TAMK? What’s your experience at TAMK been like?

TAMK was one of the few university level establishments in Finland doing a production course that seemed like a good fit for me. So far my experience has been great, obviously with COVID we’ve been attending online until recently, but other than that no complaints. Great staff and fellow student’s.

What is your creative process like?

I draw inspiration from the countless of music events I have attended in my wilder years and I have a fairly good idea of what kind of sound I want to achieve as an artist.

Is there something or someone that inspires your music?

I look up to a lot of different artists but mostly within the electronic music field. I have a soft spot for aggressive 90’s inspired rave music so most of the musicians I look up to fall into that category.

What’s next for you?

I want to start getting more frequent releases on appropriate labels and I’ve got a couple of DJ – gigs coming up once the dust settles in terms of the pandemic.
